Spatial Data Analyst
The Spatial Data Analyst course is an intensive upskilling programme focused on the possibilities of geographical analysis in urban environments using modern tools and methods. The course is designed primarily for professionals with a basic knowledge of spatial (geographic) analysis who demand expanded knowledge and skills in analyzing the physical and social environment of cities and their metropolitan regions.
The structure of the course consists of five thematic blocks with the following content: small data, big data, field exercise, synthesis and interpretation, workshop. Small data represent the traditional robust data base for urban analysis in demography, transport, governance or urban planning. There is now not only the opportunity to use brand new data from the 2021 population census, but also extensive sources of continuous statistics. Big data, on the other hand, represents a completely new opportunity to map mobility, functions, urban rhythms and the behaviour of urban users in real time. As part of the field practicum, students will use modern mapping tools (Arc GIS Field Maps) and will be instructed how to take panoramic aerial photographs using a drone. The final session will discuss methods for synthesizing available data and information, visualizing and interpreting data. The course concludes with a workshop with the presentation of student visual portfolios. The portfolios consist of graphic and cartographic outputs from each class. Successful outputs may be published on the Map and Data Centre website/DataHub portal.
Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in geography or related field, elementary knowledge of Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Czech language (selected materials may be in AJ). SIS will be used for "enrolment" and registration of students.
The graduate will be able to choose and utilize appropriate data sources.
The graduate can competently design and create simple cartographic or graphic visualization of spatial data.
The graduate is able to independently interpret, combine and analyse outputs from third-party data (statistical data, data from mobile operators, etc.) and primary data collected directly in the field.
The graduate can compare individual outputs and evaluate their relevance in the context of different geographical processes.
