Preliminary scope of work
The frequency and amplitude of natural forest disturbances have escalated globally, resulting in significant alterations to forest composition, structure, biodiversity, and ecosystem services. Bark beetle outbreaks are particularly alarming and influenced by climate change and forest management practices. Detecting these disturbances in the past is challenging due to the scarcity of fossil finds; however, sedaDNA presents a novel method for identifying and partially quantifying such disturbances.

The objective of the thesis is to analyze new paleoecological sequences, explore the application of sedaDNA, and synthesize historical disturbance dynamics.
