Preliminary scope of work
Cílem práce je vymapovat přítomnost třetího oka u linie Sauropsida.
Preliminary scope of work in English
Vertebrates display in their parietal area foramen that enables light to enter the skull cavity. Bellow this entrance photoreceptoric organ, the pineal gland, is often present. On the top of photoreception the pineal gland is importat center of organizing intrinsic physiological processes such as internal clock or temperature maintenance. The parietal foramen has been shown to disapear in synapsid lineage during the transition to endothermy. However we have no such evidence for saurospid lineage. The goal of this project is to map the presence of the parietal foramen and the size of pineal gland in sauropsids on the phylogenetic tree and test for the coevolution with the traits related to emergence of endothermy, such as emergence of feathers and diversification of melanosomes. The work will be based on thorough literature review.
