Mitochondriální RNA editing popisuje cílenou změnu nukleotidové sekvence RNA molekul (mRNA, tRNA nebo rRNA). Způsobuje změny v sekvenci RNA (a bílkovin) ve srovnání s odpovídajícím genem kódovaným v mitochondriálním genomu. Tento jev zahrnuje dva typy sekvenčních změn – indely a substituce. Mitochondriální RNA editing je zprostředkován různými systémy/ proteiny, které jsou mechanisticky a evolučně nepříbuzné. Cílem je shrnout známé systémy zapojené do mitochondriálníhi RNA editingu, jejich evoluci a zhodnotit jejich význam.

Preliminary scope of work in English

Mitochondrial RNA editing describes the programmed alteration of the nucleotide sequence of RNA molecules (mRNA, tRNA or rRNA). It causes changes in the RNA (and protein) sequence compared to the corresponding gene encoded in the mitochondrial genome. The phenomenon encompasses two generic patterns - indels and substitutions. Mitochondrial RNA editing is mediated by a variety of pathways that are mechanistically and evolutionarily unrelated. The aim is to summarize known systems involved in mitochondrial RNA editing, their evolution, and evaluate their importance.
