It was problem to get a date of the exam. Firstly, the teacher did not tell us how to get it. Only information we had was in moodle, but it was added one week before the examination period.
Moreover, we had to write the teacher to get the date. He was not available some days/weeks, but he did not tell us beforehand.

Michael is a nice guy, but no one could pay attention during the lectures which were extremely boring apart from maybe two.
We also had to write to him for an exam date but he was not available for nearly two weeks.

The lecturer was very friendly during both the lectures and the exam. I think he handled the large amount of things to be covered well, but I still think that the course could be "thinner".

Sympatický cvičící. Cením si souvislostí s machine learningem, které nám vyprávěl. Jenom bych preferoval trochu preciznější řešení úloh předváděných na tabuli, např. psát podrobněji co který symbol znamená, co předpokládáme, co dokazujeme, ...

Příliš mnoho příkladů na optimalizaci protfolia. Nebyl skoro žádný jiný příklad praktického použití ničeho co jsme se "dozvěděli" o přednášce.

Domácí úkoly mi obecně nevadí, jenom preferuji systém "nasbírej x bodů kdykoliv během semestru" místo "x bodů za každou sadu úkolů". Na magisterském studiu už snad může být student sám zodpovědný za svoje průběžné studium.

It seemed strange to me to arrange the material in the lecture with the actual algorithms for solving the various types of optimization problems only coming in at the very end, say ~15 % of the semester. During the middle part, where we categorized the various classes of problems and noted the relations and reductions between, it felt at the time like reducing one thing I can't solve to another thing I can't solve, without having any intuition for how much hard the problem is to solve algorithmically, and hence how much of a "win" such reductions are.

The course covered many topics without details, thus I do not consider it to be very useful. I do not understand why it is compulsory (9 credits).

Jde o přehledový předmět, kde se nic neprobere pořádně. První asi 2/3 přednášky byly jen o příkladech problému ale ne o jejich řešení. Předmět nebyl, až na pár vyjímek, zajímavý. Tento předmět mi přišel poněkud zbytečný.

The course feels a bit like a speedrun through Boyd's 700-page book. The many examples and applications are interesting, but make the course very time-consuming. I found it impossible to take proper notes during lectures, so I had to spend a lot of time at home creating notes from which I could learn for the course exam and final state exam.
