Táto diplomová práca priamo porovnáva dve súčasné stredoeurópske literárne diela, ktoré až doteraz neboli v priamej súvislosti skúmané, a to „Flights“ od Olgy Tokarczukovej a „Príhody tuláka po Slovensku“ od Martina M. Šimečku. Uplatnením postmodernej analýzy oboch kníh práca odhaľuje jedinečnú podstatu stredoeurópskeho procesu spomienok a komunikácie a vplyv na pohyblivosť individuálnych a kolektívnych totožností v literárnom texte. Spolusúčasná analýza známeho románu poľskej autorky preloženého do angličtiny a neznámej knihy slovenského autora umožňuje odhalenie prehliadnutých odlišností, a tak tvorí jedinečnú podstatu tejto diplomovej práce. Zameraním sa len na tieto dve novely práca dáva dostatočný teoretický priestor pre kontinentálnu filozofickú tradíciu prepletenú viacerými teóriami a tým dosahuje skutočný potenciál odhalenia väčšej nadstavby. Diplomová práca používa dve hlavné teórie: postmodernizmus (Ihab Hassan, Michel Foucault, Jean Baudrillard) a štúdium spomienok (Astrid Erll, Jan Assmann, Svetlana Boyne, Elena Gomel). Metodika je tiež rozdelená na analýzu kritickej debaty a metódu novej kritiky opísanú Empsonom za účelom konštrukcie literárneho textu cez mnohopočetné roviny. Kľúčový záver tejto diplomovej práce zhrňuje rozpoznanie, že diela oboch autorov fragmentujú väčšiu podstatu na menšie celky za účelom odhalenia podstaty socialistického štátu a v období tesne po ňom. Rozdelenie časového priestoru v samotnej podstate textov poukazuje na stálu aktuálnosť minulosti.
Předběžná náplň práce v anglickém jazyce
This thesis is a literary-Memory Studies comparison of two works of contemporary Central European literature, not previously studied in conjunction: Martin M. Šimečka’s Prihody Tulaka po Slovensku and Olga Tokarczuk’s Flights. Through an analysis of the Postmodern features of both works, this thesis will uncover the unique Central European memory process and discourses within the texts, as well as the impact of these on shifting collective and individual level identities. Juxtaposing a well-read and translated Polish novel alongside a Slovak text previously untranslated into English allows for overlooked nuances to emerge, whilst offering this thesis the chance to be seminal in its analysis. By focusing on only two primary texts, this thesis has the theoretical space to engage with the continental philosophical tradition, and weave together multiple theorists, thus allowing for greater super-structures to emerge. The theoretical lenses which will be used are bifurcated between those theorists who will be used to consider the Postmodern aspects of the texts (Ihab Hassan, Michel Foucault, Jean Baudrillard) and those who are focused on Memory Studies (Astrid Erll, Jan Assmann, Svetlana Boym, Elena Gomel). The methodological framework is further bifurcated between Empsonian New Criticism and Critical Discourse Analysis, which is designed to allow for a consideration of the texts at the multiple levels on which they operate. The key findings are that both texts employ petite histoire to fragment grand narratives and expose the Socialist/post Socialist state as a simulacrum, whilst their temporal dissolution suspends linear time to render the past eternally relevant.
