This project will focus on the protein transport across the mitochondrial membranes of some unicellular eukaryotes from the group of Excavata as they often carry mitochondria with ancestral bacterial features, which may shed light on the origin and the evolution of the mitochondrial protein transport machines. Project will combine tailored bioinformatics, cell biology and biochemical techniques and live cell microscopy in order to define the molecular apparatus behind the protein transport and the organelle division.
