MUDr. Jan Barcal, Ph.D. [14-90], Pathological Physiology II. [EAP0103090, cvičení]
Professor Barcal gives clear explanations in each topic and makes a more interactive course, not just limited to the presentation slides.
Personally, I appreciated the fact that we trained a lot with ECGs which was definitely useful.
ProfessorDr Blahna was a very good professor that I was lucky enough to have for both semesters. To be honest the first semester which was my summer semester of 2nd Year it was hard to follow pathophysiology (as I was studying a lot more physiology) but our professor somehow broke it down in simpler parts and made me interested in the subject early on. The second semester I loved pathophysiology as I was able to follow it thoroughly but even in times that some things were difficult to grasp I felt that professor Blahna was very open and welcoming to answer and elaborate more in order to make me understand. I also really appreciated the fact that he was very consistent in the sense that every class he was there ready to follow the schedule of the course , he was always kind to explain and he highlighted the most important concepts that we should understand. He made us feel capable of doing the exam and he didn't exaggerate or made us feel "stupid" or incompetent. I also had him as examiner in the exam itself which was one of my best exams. it had very good flow and he made me feel relaxed and ready to discuss my topics. even when he asked me questions that maybe I answered something not exact to his questions he didn't get disappointed or angry but he tried to reposition me better so to understand his questions . that was very nice as I ended my exam feeling that I had also discussed very intriguing things with a professor in a very respectful scientific conversation.

Every time interesting, how the descriptions of upper year students & the own experiences differ... in my opinion one of the best dozents, this faculty has
Very passionate about his work and he passes this passion to the students, always willing to explain and guide , the transmission/passing of knowledge to us is always effective, he always explains something umtil you actually got it, always open for questions and willing to help you learn, and always guides to what you should give your attention to when studying and even for the exam. His knowledge in medicine is immense, a big thank you for everything
The especially good part of the lecture was the free speech and the animation that you have to think by yourself to learn how mechanism affect another organ system , even though I was most of the time wrong. Great lectures!
Maybe a little bit too much information. Could be better for students when it is reduced to the essential. Additionally to that is that the moodle course is unclear and not all information are displayed
The course itself has a lot of information which is very beneficial for us students but it does not take sense having pathophysiology during the 1st semester of 3rd year because even if students keep up with what has been taught in 2nd year there is a big break which makes us forget things. And I felt the way the course was organised was not very clear or useful to us students. Lectures and practical content almost never coincide. Having only one class per week is not enough... and last but not least it, the organization of the classes seems to follow no pattern.. one week we are focused on CNS the following on ECG and so on....
it was really unstructured and the order didn’t really made sense, we had neurology subjects in the first semester without even talking about it in the lectures f.e. the sleep practical was really early and we didn’t really understood that much
Pathophysiology was my favourite subject this year and I think that the department was very well organised with its lectures, practical and general approach . more specifically the practicals deepened our knowledge on some subjects and made it easier to understand some important concepts in pathophysiology.
Připomínka k předmětu, Pathological Physiology II. [EAP0103090, přednáška]
- Not always timed with the according topic in the practical.
- Some of the lecture materials were provided on moodle, some on the departments website, some as hand-out, some only as lecture recording - it would be more structured to find all resources on the same platform.
